Butterfly Dream show in Dali

The Butterfly Dream is truly a visual feast, which is conceived based on the rich ethnic customs and scenic beauties in Dali. It boasts the strong local colours, the fancy and illusory stage scenes, the brilliant lightning effects; the fashionable background music, the fantastic choreography and the distinctive and gripping scenario.

The Butterfly Dream is aimed to sing the praise of the harmony between people and nature, between people and people, between people and gods and between today and future.

The Butterfly Dream, by presenting the colourful butterflies and the touching love songs, is a paradise for dreamers and ethnic culture lovers, as well as poetic depiction of the beautiful future life of people in Dali.

Traditional Bai music concert In Dali

In Dali it is possible to organize a special concert with traditional Bai music on demand. It is also possible to arrange this concert in your hotel or in a place of your choice.

Dongba Dance and Music in Lijiang

The Dongba culture is the traditional culture of the Naxi nationality. It is manifested in the Dongba religion, a kind of primitive religion based on the worship of nature, as well as the exploration of the harmonic relationship of man and nature. The Dongba Palace Folk Troupe of ancient town of Lijiang was founded in 1998. The program evolve around the ancient cultural legacy called Music-cum-Dance of Dongba, thus providing insights into the cultural and history of the Naxi people.

Naxi Music Demonstration in Lijiang

Two ancient forms of Naxi musical expression have remained virtually intact over the centuries and you must enjoy a  demonstration. Of particular note (pun intended!) are the unusual wind and percussion instruments mastered by the performers.

Sights in and around Lijiang

Yulong Xue Mountain (Jade Dragon Snow Mountain): Within this 13-peak range flows the northern hemisphere's southernmost glacier. Our tour of the mountain includes the option of a chairlift ride to the top of the peak. At 14,750 feet, it's Asia's highest chairlift!

Black Dragon Pool Park: Check your camera's memory card before visiting this park! You'll be taking lots of pictures here, both of the park and the mountain vistas in the distance! Located just north of town, Black Dragon Pool Park (or, Heilong Tan Gongyuan) is stunning. Within a pond swimming with colourful carp is a rustic-looking three-level pavilion connected to the shore by a simple, five-arch bridge. But it's the majestic Jade Dragon Snow Mountain (or, Yulong Xue Shan) rising in the distance that captures your attention.

Tiger Leaping Gorge: As legend has it, a hunted tiger escaped certain death by leaping across the River of Golden Sands ("Jinsha Jiang"), smartly choosing the gorge's narrowest point. Hiking trails line the gorge, providing breathtaking views - and breath-taking climbs! (trekking in the Tiger Leaping Gorge).

Folk Customs

·     March Fair, which falls between March 15 and 20 of the lunar calendar, is a grand festival of the Bai. It is celebrated every year at the foot of the Diancang Hill to the west of Dali city. It is a fair and an occasion for sporting contests and theatrical performances. People gather there to enjoy dances, horse racing and other games.

·     Torch festival is on June 25. On that day, torches are lit everywhere to usher in a bumper harvest and to bless the people with good health and fortune. Streamers bearing auspicious words are hung in doorways and at village entrances alongside the flaming torches. Villagers, holding aloft torches, walk around in the fields to drive insects away.

·     Three courses of tea

·     Power Whip dance of Bai people

·     Yi people's Group dance

·     Yi people's Sword dance

·     Bai Protection God day
